Wink Martindale (born Winston Conrad Martindale on December 4, 1934 in Jackson, Tennessee, USA) is perhaps best known as a game show host for such classic shows as Gambit, Tic Tac Dough, and High Rollers. Martindale also hosted The Last Word and Debt, as well as a series of shows created for a game show block on the Family Channel (now ABC Family) in the mid-1990s. These shows, some of which were based on popular board games or puzzles, included Trivial Pursuit, Boggle, Shuffle, and Jumble. Each of these programs also featured an "Interactive Game" version, with which home viewers could participate.
Martindale started his career as a disc jockey on KFWB radio in Los Angeles in the 1950s (upon graduation from Memphis State University) and also had many numerous radio jobs into the 1980s. His first break into television was at WHBQ-TV in Memphis, Tennessee, as the host of Mars Patrol, a Saturday morning science-fiction themed children's television program that featured skits and syndicated action serials to a live studio audience. Martindale also hosted primetime WHBQ programs. It was at his tenure with WHBQ that Martindale became a close friend of Elvis Presley, and following Presley's sudden death in 1977, Martindale aired a nationwide tribute radio special in his honor.
His rendition of the spoken-word song "Deck Of Cards" went to #7 on the Billboard charts and sold over a million copies in 1959.
