Dorothy Jean Dandridge (November 9, 1922 – September 8, 1965) was an American actress. She was the first African American to be nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress.
Birth
She was born in Cleveland, Ohio to Cyrus Dandridge and Ruby Jean Butler. Cyrus and Ruby split up 5 months prior to Dorothy's birth. Dorothy had one sister: Vivian Dandridge. More on [ Dorothy Dandridge ]
