Miranda Otto (born 16 December, 1967) is an Australian film and theatreactor. Otto began her career in the movie Emma's War in 1986 and garnered critical acclaim in The Girl Who Came Late (1991). After a decade of critically acclaimed roles in Australian projects, Otto gained Hollywood's attention after landing minor roles in The Thin Red Line (1998) and What Lies Beneath (2000), before her breakthrough in 2003 when her character Éowyn was introduced to audiences in The Two Towers (film).
She is an accomplished dramatic actress and has received four Australian Film Institute nominations for The Girl Who Came Late, The Last Days of Chez Nous (1992), The Well (1997), and In the Winter Dark (1998). To date, she has performs predominantly in minor roles ranging from romantic comedies and drama to science fiction and action thrillers. Her best known films include The Lord of the Rings film trilogy (2002, 2003) and Steven Spielberg's War of the Worlds (2005).
