John Nettles is a British actor. He was born in Cornwall on October 11, 1943. He attended the University of Southampton, studying philosophy and history. He has worked at the Royal Court Theatre, but he is best known for his role as Chief Inspector Barnaby in ITV's Midsomer Murders, and from his role as Jim Bergerac in the eponymous TV series Bergerac in the early 1980s. He has written a book called Bergerac's Jersey, which is part history of the island and part film journal of the series. Recently, he was in the BBC production The Hound of the Baskervilles. Other appearances include Black Beauty and The Merchant of Venice, and as the narrator of the BBC's documentary series Airport. He now lives near Evesham with his wife.
