Mummy on a Bridge
Sat, 19 Jul 2008 05:00:00 -0000
Found in a closet in my high school's dark room.
Gimme $300!
Sat, 19 Jul 2008 05:00:00 -0000
I think my friend Joanne spotted this one last year when we visited the Bahamas.
Good Fruit and Secrets
Fri, 18 Jul 2008 05:00:00 -0000
Found in the parking lot of a Sam's Club. I don't know why oranges don't come under the heading of "good fruits," and I haven't yet been able to find the "secrets" department in our Sam's. But in Santa Fe, anything is possible.
Old Man with Umbrella
Fri, 18 Jul 2008 05:00:00 -0000
I found this picture in a milk crate full of random photographs and papers at a used furniture sale just outside of town. I thought it was nice snapshot. The woman who ran the sale said I could have the picture.
The Pledge
Thu, 17 Jul 2008 05:00:00 -0000
I walked out of my (shitty) apartment one spring morning in 1991 and found this message scotch taped to every post and pole along three blocks of McClintock Road. I use the find regularly in my fiction writing classes, and it still moves me after all these years. I wish the scanner could capture the smudges, tears, and tape residue. I hope Mary was grateful.
New Years Resolutions
Thu, 17 Jul 2008 05:00:00 -0000
My grandfather found this and thought it so cute that he brought it in to show us all. He never specified where he found it. I especially love the 'Winner" sticker. I hope they all kept to their many resolutions!

Make it stop: Roomba with chimp head
Becky Stern Sat, 19 Jul 2008 12:00:21 -0800
This little guy scares the daylights out of me: a Roomba topped with an animatronic chimp head. No purpose is claimed, but I think it's safe to say it's for scaring pets and children. Does it remind anyone else of that episode of Aqua Teen Hunger Force where they put Carl's head on an RC truck? Via BoingBoing. Image transfer
Patti Schiendelman Sat, 19 Jul 2008 07:00:00 -0800
I just found this great tutorial on image transfer - they cover lots of different transfer mediums for use on wood, paper, fabric, and glass. Xylene is a really toxic chemical, I'd stay away from it - the other mediums are pretty benign. I never knew you could use caulk! An image transfer is, to put it simply, the act of transferring an image from one source to another. Depending upon what material you are wanting to transfer onto will depend on what type of transfer method you want to use. What I love about transfers as opposed to just taking the image itself and gluing it down, is the transparent effects you can get from transfers-- allowing you to layer images or let the surface design show through. i.e. as a patterned fabric or woodgrain. Singer Futura Computerized Embroidery Machine - CRAFT Video Podcast
Natalie Zee Drieu Sat, 19 Jul 2008 01:00:00 -0800
Download the MP4 Video or HD Version | Subscribe to CRAFT in iTunes While at Maker Faire in May, I got a chance to get a terrific demo from Vivian Lavinskas of Singer Sewing Company on their Singer Futura line of computerized embroidery machines. Having one myself and being a techie, I can vouch for how amazingly cool these machines are. They connect easily to a PC and allow you to embroider from pre-set designs or in the CE-250 and CE-350 models, you can also use your own images for embroidery! As mentioned in the podcast, each month a new embroidery motif is available for free download from the projects section of the Singer web site. You can also check out the many great sewing and embroidery projects as well. My first project with the Singer Futura CE-250 embroidery machine was to test out the CRAFT logo above. The software was really simple to use and imports lots of file formats, then coverts it over to embroidery stitches that the sewing machine reads. Then I used that design template to embroider the logo onto vintage tablecloths which were used at our booth at the recent ICE Atlanta craft fair.
