Country Gospel is a subgenre of gospel music with a country twang, also known as Christian Country or inspirational country. Many secular Country Music artists have recorded gospel songs on their albums or have performed gospel music on their radio or television shows. Tennessee Ernie Ford always included a gospel song at the conclusion of his very popular weekly television show. Initially, management balked but Ford insisted and it soon became one of the most successful segments of his show. This pattern was also followed on other network weekly country shows like Hee Haw, the Barbara Mandrell Show, and the Statler Brothers weekly show. One of Country Music longest running and most popular shows, The Grand Old Opry has always included gospel music as a part of its program and country artists/groups like the Oak Ridge Boys, Ray Price, Red Sovine, the Louvin Brothers and the Carter Family have recorded many gospel albums. In the past, most Country Gospel music was recorded by secular artists but today there is a trend underway where many Christian Country Gospel artists like Del Way, Carroll Roberson, Walt Mills, See The Light, the Isaacs, Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver, Laverne Tripp, Bill Babnick, Cheryl Cook and the Gary Waldrep Band which are recording strictly gospel music. Likewise, many legendary country artists like George Jones, Randy Travis, Statler Brothers, Connie Smith, Dolly Parton, Brenda Lee, Marty Stewart, Willie Nelson, Barbara Mandrell, Charlie Daniels, Mel Tillis, Ricky Skaggs, Ricky Van Shelton, Loretta Lynn, Johnny Cash, Gene Watson, Alison Krauss, Billy Ray Cyrus, John Conlee, and others have recorded numerous country and traditional gospel albums.

Country Gospel derives many of its roots from Southern Gospel music. Many of the Southern Gospel groups of the 60's and 70's recorded under the umbrella's of both Southern Gospel and Country Gospel. Some of the more popular groups of the genre were The Hinsons, The Hemphills, The Singing Echoes, The Rambos (which featured singer/songwriter Dottie Rambo) and The Blackwood Brothers. Other groups that incorporated some Country Gospel into their acts included The Happy Goodman Family, and The Nelons (which later became a leader in Progressive Southern Gospel music. Current Southern Gospel groups that incorporate a country gospel sound into their ministries include The Freemans, The Isaacs, The Crabb Family and The Spencers.

Gospel Country or Country-Gospel Music has been around for generations. It originated as a blend of early mountain music, cowboy music and the music from the plantations of the deep south. It was out of this blended music of America that Southern Gospel music was birthed, primarily in the southern states. Today, as Southern Gospel music seems to be waning in popularity, Country Gospel music has blended with a new brand of music called Christian Country music, and CHRISTIAN COUNTRY GOSPEL MUSIC is like a flower that's just begun to bloom around the nation and the world. It is music that deals with life's problems and God's answers to those problems, and it doesn't sound like the religious music of years past -- nor does it have the unpolished, raw sound of days gone by, but it has attracted extraordinary talent and quality in production, thereby making it palatable to the ears of the un-churched who like the sounds of today's country music. It's becoming a tool for evangelism that's far surpassing it's predecessors, and you can hear this great music on many internet and traditional radio stations worldwide.
