Music is a form of expression in the medium of time using the structures of tones and silence. It is the creation of complex forms in time through construction of patterns and combinations of natural stimuli, principally sound. As a human activity, music may be used for artistic or aesthetic, as a means of communication, entertainment, or ceremonial purposes. The definition of what constitutes music varies according to culture and social context.

Definition of music

The definition of music as sound with particular characteristics is taken as a given by psychoacoustics, and is a common one in musicology and performance. There are observable patterns to what is broadly labeled music, and while there are understandable cultural variations, the properties of music are the properties of sound as perceived and processed by humans.

The Future of Cars: Cobra Starship Test Drive the Tesla Roadster
Wed, 21 Oct 2009 01:53:22 -0700
The Band: Cobra Starship The Car: Tesla Roadster The Location: New York City "I'm gonna take the first shift, if that's all right," Cobra Starship guitarist Ryland Blackinton says, strolling around to the driver's side of a tiny black roadster parked on Sixth Avenue in Manhattan. "Gabe needs a little more time to sober up." Gabe would be Gabe Saporta, Cobra Starship's founder and lead singer, and a man who is hiding a serious hangover behind his oversized Ray-Ban Wafarers. He was out until...
The Future of Cars: T-Pain Test Drives the BMW 335d Clean Diesel
Wed, 21 Oct 2009 02:05:52 -0700
The Artist: T-Pain The Car: BMW 335d Clean Diesel The Location: Miami, FL Few things make T-Pain as happy as a strip club. The 26-year-old is in Miami recording his next album, Revolver, because this is where he makes his best music and, he says, "I think it's the strip clubs." The first single, "Take Your Shirt Off," is perfectly engineered for four-minute pole dances. "Every song is!" he yells, and then cackles, as T-Pain often does. For two months, he's been here, recording in the...
The Future of Cars: 3OH!3 Test Drive the Mitsubishi i-MiEV Electric
Wed, 21 Oct 2009 02:19:52 -0700
The Band: 3OH!3 The Car: Mitsubishi i-Miev Electric The Location: Los Angeles, CA It's not easy to find a vehicle with a name as punctuationally nonsensical as 3OH!3, the Boulder, Colorado duo behind the smash frat-rock anthem "Don't Trust Me." But the Mitsubishi i-Miev is up to the task. The band is named for their hometown area code (303); the car's name is an acronym for "Mitsubishi innovative electric vehicle," which fails to explain the exta "I" at the front. Oh, well. It's...
