Rashomon can refer to several things:

  • The Rashōmon Gate (羅生門 or 羅城門 Rajōmon) is the main city gate in Heijokyō (Nara), and later Heiankyō (Kyoto), Japan.
  • Rashōmon is a 1915 short story written by Akutagawa Ryunosuke.
  • Rashōmon is a 1950 motion picture by Akira Kurosawa based on the above short story.
  • Rashōmon is a 1959 play written by Fay and Michael Kanin, based on the above film based on the above short story, displaying a nice sense of originality.
  • Rashōmon is a 2000 play by Meena Natarajan and Pham Luu, produced by Pangea World Theater. This version returns to Akutagawa's short stories as the primary source.
  • Rashomon is a Leeds-based improvised music ensemble headed by Richard Ormrod.
  • rashomon effect, the effect of the subjective perception of an event's eyewitnesses, which when applied to their recollection, enable them to produce numerous different but equally plausible accounts of said event. It is named for Akira Kurosawa's classic film "Rashomon."
