Party Monster (2003) is a drama/dark comedy that details the rise and fall of infamous New York party promoter Michael Alig. The movie stars former child star Macaulay Culkin as the drug addled gay "King of the Club Kids". Also in the film are Austin Powers actor Seth Green as the flamboyant and slightly smarter James St. James, TV star Dylan McDermott as Michael's boss/father figure Peter Gatien, indie film icon Chloë Sevigny as Michael's girlfriend/fag hag Gitsie, Wilmer Valderrama of That 70s Show as Michael's boyfriend Superstar DJ Keoki, and rocker Marilyn Manson as the freaked out transsexual Christina.
The film is based on the novel Disco Bloodbath, which was written by James St. James and details his friendship with Michael and the murder that would kickstart his fall from grace. Also, a documentary on the murder, "Party Monster: The Shockumentary", was used for certain elements of the film
Party Monster had its world premiere at the 2003 Sundance Film Festival. Though the film never became a mainstream hit, it has become a cult classic of some sort, and many club parties with the Party Monster theme were started in several major cities.
