A 1998 film written by Robert Farrar and directed by Rose Troche, starring Kevin McKidd, James Purefoy, Tom Hollander, Julie Graham, Simon Callow and Hugo Weaving.
Synopsis
The film follows Leo (McKidd), an openly gay man who has just had a birthday. He's feeling grumpy and old, so his daffy gay roommate Darren (Hollander) and pragmatic straight roommate Angie (Graham) get him to go to a men's group run by New Age goofball Keith (Callow) whose wife is Sybil (Harriet Walter). There, Darren meets hunky Irishman Brendan (Purefoy) whom he develops a crush on; however Brendan is straight and lives with his girlfriend Sally (Ehle) who also turns out to be an old and close friend of Leo's. A series of ' A Book About Men' group exercises leads Brendan and Leo to bond, as they're the only two men in the group who aren't messed up by their ex-wives. They eventually bond in more ways than one, as Brendan appears unexpectedly late one night at Leo's door and sleeps with him; after which they become something of a couple, to the consternation of their men's group. Meanwhile, flamboyant Darren meets real estate agent Jeremy (Weaving). Jeremy, always ready for another sexual adventure, takes Darren to homes he's trying to sell while the owners are out, where they have sex in the bed (and living room, and kitchen, and pool, and...). Eventually this leads to them having sex with handcuffs and blindfolds in the bedroom of the house which Sally has on the market, during which she unexpectedly returns home.
