David Gemmell (born August 1, 1948) is a Times bestseller fantasy writer and occasional historical fictionalist.
He was born in West London in the summer of 1948. At the age of sixteen he was expelled from school for organizing a gambling syndicate. He then became a day laborer and a nightclub bouncer in Soho. He also worked as a freelance writer for the London Daily Mail, Daily Mirror, and Daily Express.
He published his first novel, Legend, in 1984, and it has remained in print. In 1986 he became a full-time writer and most recently released The Lord of the Silver Bow in 2005 with the sequel Troy: Shield of Thunder due out in September 2006. He is considered by many to be Britain's premier fantasy writer.
