Body art is art made on, with, or consisting of, the human body. The most common forms of body art are tattoos and body piercings, but other types include scarification, branding, scalpelling, shaping (for example tight-lacing of corsets), full body tattoo and body painting.
More extreme body art can involve things such as mutilation or pushing the body to its physical limits. For example, one of Marina Abramovic's works involved dancing until she collapsed from exhaustion, while one of Dennis Oppenheim's better-known works saw him lying in the sunlight with a book on his chest, until his skin, excluding that covered by the book, was badly sunburned. It can even consist of the arrangement and dissection of preserved bodies in an artistic fashion, as in the case of the plastinated bodies used in the travelling Body Worlds exhibit.
In Western art, body art appears to be a sub-category of performance art, in which artists use or abuse their own body to make their particular statements.

Whelp, just finished this sketch that I laid out this morning for a new Painting im Working on for this years "Tried, and True" tattoo convention in Orlando FL. Seems that Chirs, and Danny (the shows promoters, and all around nice guys), and asked yours truly to be one of this years "Featured artists". I will join the likes of Jime' Litwalk, Josh Ford, Martin, LaCasse, and Bert Krak (last Years featured Artists). This year I will share the limelight with Nikko, Roman, and the one and only Mike Wilson (who should probably have the stage to himself, a stand up guy, and a Hell of a tattooer). So, all the artists are gonna have a banner, and perhaps a shirt. So throwing caution to the wind, IM posting the sketch to mine, here now. I will admit that when I jump the gun, and show off the sketch too early, things happen. I mean shitty thing. People Hate it, I screw up the painting, or just plain old hate the fucker before iM even finished with the piece. But IM hoping that doing this, here, and now, forces my hand, and get my ass motivated to knock this bitch outta the park. Besides I kinda really dig the sketch. If you haven't been to one of our tattoo appreciation parties, now is the time to attend! The party is this Thursday December 17, 8 pm @ the Brass Cat in our hometown, Easthampton, MA. We will be showing the Hori Smoku Sailor Jerry Movie, there will be FREE FOOD, catered by one of the newest restaurants (and our personal favorite) in Easthampton, Riff's! If that wasn't enough, in the spirit of the holidays, we will also be giving away goodies to everyone through the doors! We'll have T-Shirts, gift certificates, raffles and even more surprises!! Stretch Tattoos: 2010 here we come!

I would like to thank everyone that came out to our "Better Late Than Never" Grand Opening Party. It was a blast. We got to see a lot of friends, had some drinks, and had some laughs. All in all it was a good time. I hope that everyone who was in attendance had as much fun as we did. I just got back from doing a week guest spot at Coil Tattoo Gallery in California. I want to extend my greatest thanks to the whole Coil crew (Nathan Kostechko, Dave Barton and Robert the apprentice) for letting me and Jim hang out and Tattoo! Check out these guys, they are all good people with a lot of talent (http://www.myspace.com/coiltattoogallery) Our very own David Page has been on the road for the last month and we are all awaiting his return to Nautilus. Once we receive the arrival date from David be on the look out for a cool welcome home party. Keep your eyes peeled for more information on that later on. 2009 was a great year for me and Nautilus and 2010 looks to be promising as well!
